9 of the Best Startup Videos Ever! (2024)

In this article we are going to take a look at 9 of the best startup videos ever!

In most cases, your startup video is your introduction to the world. And it has to be incredible if you want to make the best first impression you possibly can!

So, feast your eyes on some of the greatest startup videos online to gather some inspiration…

1. Dollar Shave Club

Dollar Shave Club is the startup video that all other startup videos are measured against. This is the gold standard and arguably hasn’t been beaten since it was first posted in 2012.

The video attracted A LOT of attention when it was first posted, clocking up a massive 3 million views in the first few days alone. The video also generated 12,000 new sign ups for the brand overnight

That’s the kind of success that most can only dream of! And arguably the reason for this product launch video’s huge success is because it was so different from anything else out there at the time – especially in the male grooming industry.

Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid to stand out.

2. Poo-Pourri

Poo-Pourri has a very similar success story to Dollar Shave Club. An unknown company bursts onto the scene with an outrageous startup video that gets everybody talking!

The video uses humour – and plenty of toilet-related puns – to grab attention. The juxtaposition of the posh actress and her potty mouth just adds to the absurdity.

This video spread like wildfire, clocking up 6 million views and almost 300,000 shares on social media in the first week. Poo-Pourri also won The Funniest Viral Video Award at the Advertising Age Digital Conference.

Moral of the story: Humour goes a long way.

3. Communyco

Full disclosure: this is a video that we made for one of our lovely clients, Communyco. We were delighted when they came to us for an animated video that was a bit different.

They wanted the characters in their video to stand out in the saturated world of video marketing, so we created tons of colourful creatures, each with their own shapes and personalities.

When you want to break the mould, animation is the perfect option. Animation helps you to bring any vision you have to life – the only limit is your imagination! It’s also a lot more cost effective than live action video

Moral of the story: use animation if you want to create with no limits!

4. Blendtec

This video from 2006(!) was the very first in a long and well-loved series by Blendtec called ‘Will it Blend?’

The premise is simple. They blend different objects – everything from marbles to an iPad – inside one of their Blendtec machines. It’s captivating viewing and also shows off the power of their products!

These videos have racked up millions of views, and each one uses the same quirky presenter that can be seen in the first startup video.

Moral of the story: show what your product is capable of (in a non-salesy way).

5. Exploding Kittens

This startup video began life as a kickstarter campaign and exploded in popularity from there. In fact, the business has now expanded into several games and puzzles – there’s even a Netflix series!

This video is fun, imaginative, and really helps viewers to connect with the founders and their passion for the product.

Moral of the story: Put yourself (or at least your personality) into your video.

6. PetTech

This is another video we made for a great startup called PetTech! PetTech create products that help keep your pet comfortable and safe, and give you maximum peace of mind.

This animated video shows viewers everything that the company’s smart crate can do, without ever showing the actual product on screen. This is because the prototype wasn’t ready yet.

Animation is a great option to help you generate interest while things are still coming together in the background. And, also, it’s a lot easier to work with an animated dog than a real one – just saying!

Moral of the story: if you don’t have a prototype yet, let animation fill in the gaps!

7. Zocdoc

This bright, colourful animated video from Zocdoc spends over half of its runtime covering the existing pain points in the industry. Only the final 15 seconds are dedicated to Zocdoc.

This is an interesting and powerful approach for startups. It highlights why your business is so important and so needed. It allows you to point out what’s wrong and then explain how you’re disrupting the industry in a positive way.

Moral of the story: point out how you’re different from other solutions and companies.

8. Patreon

Patreon has grown massively as a business since they first released this ‘what is it and how does it work’ video.

The video begins with a strong and clear statement about why Patreon exists. This is a great way to talk to your ideal audience directly and immediately, so you can hook them for the duration of your video.

This video proves that you don’t always have to be flashy or outrageous with your startup video. Sometimes, the best approach is simply to be direct and explain your value.

Patreon has grown substantially since this video first came out. The platform hosts more than 8 million monthly active patrons and has raised funding totalling over $412 million.

Moral of the story: Get to the point and be clear in your value.

9. Notarize

It’s quite fitting to end on this startup video from Notarize because it seems to amalgamate a lot of the different elements we’ve seen in the rest of the videos on this list. It’s funny, it shows the personality of the business, and it’s clear in approach.

Audiences like to be spoken to in this direct and relatable way. And this sitcom-style video is a great way to keep viewers paying attention – what we mean by that is, it doesn’t necessarily look or feel like an ad!

Moral of the story: Be relatable, not salesy!

Final thoughts

So, there you have it! 9 of the best startup videos ever! Could your video be number 10 on our list?

There’s so much to takeaway from these videos. But the top 3 seem to be:

– Make it funny
– Make it snappy
– Make it different

If you aim to tick off all 3 with your startup video then you’ll be on the right track! And, if you need some professional help, we’re always here to lend a helping hand. Just get in touch
